Many people are horrified by uses of literally not quite meaning in a literal sense. It also seems to go against the sort of the norms of how language always functions, says Sharad Lake. The means of words are very flexible and continue being flexed as society changes the world change. So it's not really a case of terrible decay, it's just sort of rebirth and regeneration.
