Be Strong Therefore and Show Yourself a Man

The early church recognized the same language that Paul uses here from some Old Testament passages found in the Greek Septuagint translation. It's used actually a few times when both Joshua and the people of Israel were instructed multiple times to be strong and courageous. King David told his son Solomon, be strong therefore and show yourself a man. These commands reveal a shared understanding of what being a man meant to their original audiences.
