The Importance of a Jewish Nationality

In Israel there is no such thing as an Israeli nationality, only an Israeli citizen. Yet you can obtain a nationality going through a religious conversion and the reform in orthodox conversions was a controversy in Israel. So what is it? What in the world does Jewish mean in Zionist parlance? I'm happy that you raise all these issues and evidently it doesn't make any sense.
