The Farm Bill and the Importance of Intensification
After the Second World War, this new American way of producing food through intense ification then started to be promoted into Europe. And so intensification started to spread and that intensification got locked in in the UK by the 1947 Agriculture Act. So essentially we got to this point where agriculture is dominated by industrialisation of the countryside, by factory farming. We got to it by a deliberate tanker, if you like, of policies, a juggernaut of policy and subsidies, but the consequences were unforeseen.And so what were some of those consequences?
