The Perfect Metaphor for Creativity
The play uses the sandwich as a metaphor for creativity and how people reconstitute their lives. The great thing about the sandwich is that it's one of the few things in which you can combine relatively ordinary ingredients and have this extraordinary culinary outcome. You just think about savoury and sweet and dissonant and harmonious. And that sandwich really can be all those things, that you can have a grill cheese sandwich, and you can put some chutney on it and a slice of bacon, and suddenly you have like a small piece of heaven.
