The original song was a very standard guy, like, you know, makes money for his woman and wants his woman to do him right. Aretha Franklin turns it into a feminist anthem. Like she flips the gender politics around. It's sort of the inverse of Elvis Presley's recording of Hound Dog which was originally by a woman named Big Mama Thornton.
