Claudius's Extension
I really don't think that Messina could ever have full seen at the time of her marriage in the AAD that Claudius was going to become Emperor. He'd been very sidelined. And a marriage with someone with the family background of Messina might be just what he needs to someday assume the throne. I think it's much more likely that Claudius is involved to some extent, or like at least knows about the plot that's happening. If he does, it's very possible that Messina was also aware of it, but we don't see any evidence that she is involved in those machinations.
