The Importance of Alex Hammond
For Alex Hammond, who took it from being a sort of banned or tartan romantic to being a serious political party, he changed the party in the 1990s. He was hugely important to the SMP's kind of pantheon. But then what happened was when she couldn't deliver and all these mandates for independence,. as the SMP put it, that she couldn't get any traction on independence. And towards the end of the decade, Sam and Sadev, you know, coming around the sidelines saying, well, maybe I want to get back in because I think I could force an independence referendum.
