Anunaki refers to the seven gods of the underworld that judged the queen of heaven before stripping her of her clothes and power. They are more or less understood to be a group of gods residing in the nether world, acting as judges. But egigi came to represent the heavenly gods, whereas anunaki grew to be a reference to those of the underworld.
