Psychopathy
The idea that our hunter gather ancestors lived in an egalitarian society is a myth. They're not naturally born egaltarians. And so much of the rule systems developed in these hunter gathers are to deal with the free riders and the bullies from god. That's e that compassion as a singular moral virtue is vulnerable to disruption by psychopathy. It provides no protection against mal lent predators. None.
