Deep red light improves efficiency of mitochondria in producing ATP, the energy molecule in the retina. Red light is not powerful enough to make you squint because if it does, it can damage your eyes. There's actually a company in London that's now producing glasses that emit this red light and it's at a safe brightness. I've ordered some of these glasses as I am very deep in the trenches in my fight against needing glasses.
