The Rise and Fall of Robert Williams

Robert Williams was head of the local chapter of the NAACP in Monroe, Louisiana. He and his wife Mabel were recognized as part of a mob that had been terrorizing black residents prior to an anti-segregation protest on August 27, 1961. They fled with their children after being told by police they would be hanging from courthouse square if they didn't leave immediately.
