Why Is Fertilizer So Important?

The rule of thumb is that if we didn't have fertilizers, we would be able to produce just about half as much food as we produce now. So Europe, because of high energy prices, fertilizer production has declined between 70 to 80%. That's catastrophic. And so we just saw in Sri Lanka, the government under the advice of a lot of Western environmentalists said, well, we're going to just ban synthetic fertilizer. The result was crash of, you know, just they couldn't produce enough food for their people and the whole economy crashed.
