The book that I'm bringing in is called The Pastoral Clinic Addiction and Dispossession along the Rio Grande by Angela Garcia. This is an ethnographic account, an anthropological account based on field work. Opiate addicts in the Española Valley in Northern New Mexico are one of the most intensive sites of opiate addiction and fatalities. And she talks about this idea of this kind of dominant idea of addiction as a disease.
