Tolkien's View of His Own Work

Tolkien had this experience continually of receiving something from outside himself or writing a history that actually happened. He does not place this as like a prophecy or a divine revelation, the origin of a new religion. If I were to make the case for Tolkien as sort of receiving this lesser inspiration, this power, a poetic inspiration, providentially directed to right Lord of the Rings. Yeah, I think there's probably something there. But in Tolkien dogmatics, what I'm doing is a descriptive work. So I don't really come into it. I am just recording what Tolkien said.
