CHAPTER

The Impact of Oral Microbiome Ecology on Gut Health

When you breathe through your mouth the pH drops into a more acidic environment that's a perfect breeding ground for anaerobic bacteria and those are the bad guys. So saliva is very protective of our teeth for many reasons but it contains nutrients and just the the moisture itself and enzymes and things that just really protect your enamel so you're drying out the mouth. The pH is dropped so it's more acidic so you're more prone to cavities absolutely, but then that bacteria if you have more pathogens in your mouthyou do swallow 2 000 times a day and that is feeding your gut microbiome as well.
