The arms should assist the legs, not work against them. Cuing the arms is so much more effective than just thinking about it. You can make a huge impact of someone's efficiency by going after arm swing. If i'm running holding especially a symmetricala water weight in hand, or holding a phone, if it's not close to my centre, a mass around my belt will affect your mechanics.
