The arms should assist the legs, not work against them. Cuing the arms is so much more effective than just thinking about it. You can make a huge impact of someone's efficiency by going after arm swing. If i'm running holding especially a symmetricala water weight in hand, or holding a phone, if it's not close to my centre, a mass around my belt will affect your mechanics. And you'll see my heart right? Its going to go up. My cadence is going to be altered. But people get really defensive about it and they don't want to change their form. It always depends, always.
