Cardano believed that such horoscopes foretold the eloquence of Petrarch. The Renaissance approach to astrology often involved an attempt to purify the discipline from medieval accretions, especially those from the Islamic world. Cardano courted controversy by also publishing the nativity of Jesus Christ. He denied that devotion to astrology equates to a belief in astral determinism.
