What if the Little Girl Only Saw the Ghosts?
Dickens loved the story, but as I said at the outset, he proposed a new ending. He noticed that all the characters saw the ghosts. What if it was only the little girl who saw them? And then in the climax of the story, she could call out what she sees. Unfortunately, we don't have the first draft of the story. So we don't know exactly what was changed when she revised it.
