The Rise of Cinema in the Middle East

If you wanted to disrupt the whole of British 20th century culture, going back in time and giving everybody radiators in 1920 would ruin it all. I don't think it's fanciful at all to plot the rise of cinema. People spent more time outside of the house in cinemas, in cafes, in pubs,. partly enabled by central heating in the middle of the 20th century. Could we possibly imagine a little cartearder or running water? How would that be adapted if we then have extreme winters as well? How would you find it?
