The u.s. really class doesn't have any cards to play in terms of legitimizing its political apparatus, says Julian Zelizer. The ruling class hopes to use people like donald trump has convenient punching bags but at the same time they love their existence because they provide a scarier alternative and give them room for rehashing what we're seeing more and more as the same narratives just recycled in a different form. "We are going to continue to be bombarded with very old but also just slightly reformed ways of looking at old and very desperate narratives," he adds.
