Choices Teaching Children Consequences

When we use choices to override our self-regulation capabilities, we aren't equipping our children with skills they'll need in the future. We're saying, I don't care what you're having a hard time with your homework; when you get it done, I'll reward you with my time and attention. Now on to the fifth point about choices teaching children consequences: More practice will make the child feel more confident. Once again, we miss all of that when we don't bother to try to understand why the child is choosing not to practice.
