How Can the Confucius Institutes Be Directed to a Domestic Audience?

In this chapter, I wanted to push us to think about different audiences and how might these projects also be directed toward global audience. One of the interesting things about this, though, is that we were a fairly sort of phenotypically, ethically diverse group. And so all of our performances and visits had a domestic audience. The other thing is that it really is pushing us, I think, to think about the concept of modernity and how is it that China is invoking different kinds of modernity. In fact, offering itself as kind of an antithetical model to the forms of modernity that are happening in the West.
