Freud says a little bit about the development of the ego, but not a lot. So is it easy to say in what way that is different from freud's ego? Freud has some very nice metaphors for talking about that development, but in kind of abstract terms. Froyd will think very abstractly about what it means, for instance, to go from a symbiotic relationship with a mother or an early caretaker,. which is almost to the point where you don't make a distinction between yourself and the other.
