Celtic languages are still being spoken in parts of the british isles in northern france. A few celtic words have passed into english, mainly during the late middle ages and thereafter. There was also a gaelic term which combined the gaelic words for war and cry. But as i said earlier, the biggest impact of this episode on the overawl story of english is the fact that much of western europe was now under roman ol. And that meant the spread of latin. Next time, i am going to look at this later period of roman history and the large number of latin words from this period which have found their way
