The Importance of Maxwell's Equations

The speed of light is the same whether you're traveling this way or that. It doesn't matter what the relative speed of the light emitter is relative to you, it always comes out the same. That was one of the apparent paradoxes that led Einstein to his new view that space and time must somehow be changing to take this into account. And then, of course, afterwards it was realized that Maxwell's equations contained this within them.
