Secrets in Kids - What's Essential in Order to Keep a Secret?

In order to understand the complexity or how to keep a good secret, children have to be better aware of how their memories work. One of the most fascinating things I uncovered when writing the chapter on secret keeping in kids was this idea that children are not initially paying attention to their inner world. And as you get a better understanding that, you know, you have these memories that are from your past, other people won't be aware of those memories if they weren't there at the same time. That's when we get the ingredients to keep a secret.
