Erasmus was the brain child of italian academic sophia caradi. She is now known by grateful graduates as mamma erasmus. Sophia had experienced the benefits of studying abroad first hand back in the 19 fifties. Now a professor herself, she led a campaign to start a proper system for studying abroad.
