The Oral Drive and the Breast

The oral drive is indifferent. Even Freud figured this out right out of the gates. Drives go wherever the hell they find satisfaction. Don't glom on to anything. The cigarette is a classic example. It's a metonymic stand-in for a more primitive lost object, which in this case would be the breast that is prohibited through weaning.
