Is Self Supervised Learning More Robust?

Self supervised learning probably produces better representations and you're not focusing these brittle class labels into the training process. But it feels like by the same token what we end up with is less intelligible. The whole alpenum robustness is less convincing to me. Image corruptions are more interesting but also for me it's not clear what it's saying.
