Ireland face Latvia in a friendly on Thursday night. Gareth Bale has retired and it is asking an awful lot to step into his shoes. I think pretty much everyone's resigned to not qualifying already because we're in this awful group. But there's always the hope that either Netherlands or France, or maybe even both of them, could implode or have some disastrous campaign. It wouldn't be the first time. And Ireland have to be ready to take advantage if that happens.
