Is Space Exploration a Possible Path Out of Decadence?

I just finished ross dowthet's book recalling the new york times on this concept of decadence society. I wonder if there is an aspect to the story that if you kind of go past the historical context, may itself strike a chord. What scares me is that there might be a lot of people who will have no opportunity in their lifetimes to leave this planet,. nor wile their children think that this the way to escape the disaster that is developing on earth. The idea, as you mentionit, for humans to live anywhere in space, whether it's on mars or in an earth orbiting spaceship. It's extremely, xtremely challenging.
