The Importance of Open Awareness in Meditation

Buddhism offers two types of meditation: fixed attention and open awareness. Fixed attention involves paying very close attention to what you're looking at, but not focusing on one specific thing in particular. Open awareness is about being aware of everything that's happening around us without focusing on a single thing. Both have their merits; sometimes the right thing to do is hone in and zoom in.
