Is React a Better Web Component?

The Chrome dev team did not decide to use Elm for this project, but I do know that you've personally used Elm in the past. So I'm kind of curious, what if we throw Elm into the mix just in terms of user experience? You have to define these methods and return true or false and that tells React what to do. The web component world that we use, you just have to call the method yourself when you want it to render. For me, I like having that control and being able to call that myself.
