The Shiller Cape and the Japanese Market

The highest that the monthly Shiller Cape has ever been in the US data was 44.19, which happened in December, 1999. The Japanese market did decline significantly and like we mentioned in the beginning of this discussion, it didn't really, it hasn't really recovered even now. Even if you invested in Japan in 1980 and just held until now, your annualized returns are like around 6%. And that's because the returns from 1980 to 1990 were so high that even with 30 years of flat returns afterwards, you still get a pretty good outcome.
