The Influence of the Renaissance on Modern Art
The most successful show in terms of popular attendance in the history of MoMA until the late I think until 1950 was a show of Italian Renaissance and Baroque art called masterpieces of Italian art. The notion that modernity was not going to be uh teleological straight linear history from the 18th to the 19th to the 20th century but rather that actually you would look in modernity for moments that were discontinuous is what Richard Meyer's new book argues.
