This chapter delves into using genetics to identify a previously unknown species of giant pouch rat, linking it back to its origin in Cameroon. It also addresses the concerning presence of illegally imported meat, with 30% of samples coming from wild animals, posing risks to public health and the livestock industry in the EU.
