There was a lot of vilosy animosity. Veronica cartwright thought that she was cast in the role of ripley, and didn't realize she wasn't until she gotto the thing. The movie being so determined not to tell us more about the characters also, i think lake allows them to kind of just be stripped down to like animals, right, trying to survive.
