Money on the Left

CHAPTER

Plato's New Festivals, New Rituals

Socrates is always at pains to distance himself from this charge that socrates was somehow there destroy the old athenian religion. But in many ways, plato sees himself as a philosopher who is trying to confirm many intuitions of non philosophical people. He is trying to honor that impulse, even as he purifies it and questions it and criticises it. And we can either get in on that and fabulate and construct um in ways that are going to serve the love of wisdom, or we can just kind of passively accept whatever new inventions our society is creating for us at any given time.
