The Basics of the Geological Column
Soel: The basic details of the geological column were put together in the eighteenth and particularly the early nineteenth century. He says geologists recognized there were successions of distinctive rock layers that appeared to occur in a consistent whereer they were found. Superimposed on this sequence of rock layers, there were also successions of fossils, ok? And they also appeared, in it, to occur inA predictable sequence,. So you can piece together the geological sequence without the fossils in many cases. It was by putting all this information together that, in effect, we get the basic of the geologicalcolumn.
