COMPLEXITY

CHAPTER

The Evolution of Insect Sociality

An ant colony really is a reproductive individual. They mate the reproductives of a colony that are produced by the work of all the colony, mate with the reproductive of another colony, and they produce a new colony. But I don't think it makes sense yet to think about all the people on earth as something like an ant colony because we don't reproduce that way. We have to be mating with some other planet and making a new, populating a new planet for the analogy to really hold up.
