When Were Markets Left?

Free market ideology was once on the part of the a political spectrum from left to right. Adam smith argued that free markets would also have to change the rules of property, which were rigged to maintain dynastic estates. The rise of commercial society enabled peasants to leave their landlord's land and become tradesmen or bakers in the cities. And so everybody's basically equal, because nobody's capacity to accumulate a vast estate is much larger than any other.
