Cornelius's Solar Lamp
robert cornelius worked in the lamp an chandelier industry his whole career. He invented a device called a solar lamp, which had a rounded light deflector like other solar lamps. But it also had wey more options for fuel than other lamps of the day. His solar lamp worked with lard oil, far less expensive than whale oil. You could put solid lard in it as a fuel to burn. And in a pinch, you could even use grease left overs from cooking. The national museum of american tory has one in its collection.
