The Battle of Pavia
The battle of pavia was not unique, but it was an escalation of several important trends. The idea of thousands of men mobilizing and massa combat and mass casualties wasn't seen in centuries. A lot of people were killed by musket balls from hundreds of yards away,. People could just have their heads knocked off by cannon that they didn't even see coming. This was totally different from the sort of hand to hand combat that people normally thought of as warfare in the middle ages.
