The introduction of the european rabbit to australia was seen as a good thing by colonizers at the time. The rabbits grew from 13 to over 14,000 in just one year. By 18 65, six years after they arrived, thomas austin wrote that he had killed 20 thousand rabbits off his estate. And it wasn't stopped because there were no more rabbits left. It's not like anyone was actively trying to prevent their spread. Instead, the arrival of the rabbits was seen as something to be celebrated. I know we can look back on that now and be completely horrified, because we know how this story plays out, and how so many other introduced species stories play
