Bonaparte and the French Campaign in Mantua
The battle of bosano was the first time napoleon bonaparte had been beaten in the field. His armies were getting beat on all fronts. Were outnumbered, and there was no relief in sight. The two austrian armies were now dangerously close to linking up. If they did, their combined weight would be too much to overcome. Napoleon came very close to abandoning the siege of mantua and pulling back to milan right then and there. But then he got lucky - which is one thing all great commanders have in common with each other.
