How Does Your Experience Help You Think About Philosophy?
I think one is that there are certain kinds of claims that philosophers or philosophy adjacent writers make about the experience of pain that ring true, or don't ring true to me. And I feel like there's a kind of angle I have on them for that reason. It was really just the experience of seeing friends go through very difficult things and sort of recognizing that an awful lot of what we talked about didn't really resemble philosophical discussions about how to live. So I had to kind of shift towards the idea that philosophical reflection on the good life should begin with reflection on the bad life.
