Nehru's idea of India was based on three different strands, and Modi is a challenge to many of them. The first break from that is really Indira Gandhi, Nehru's daughter who is quite authoritarian in her politics. He doesn't take the media seriously, especially the English media seriously at all. But where I think Modi is really unprecedented is in secularism - he has no problem paying for renovation of temples. This is an unashamed Hindu agenda over even economic reforms.
