How to Be a Better Writer
I need to constantly surprise and confound. I think that mostly comes out in the planning phases, because I'm not a sit down and start writing guy. But if there's a trick, it's just to remember that characters are confused about the world around them. And to try as best you can to write impressionistically meaning, what is it that they see? What do they think is going on? What conclusions do they make? And how are they wrong? Because they're wrong. That's what's going to happen.
