The Practice of Listening to Alcoholics
i was inspired by a high school student who had been an alcoholic. She and other students would read out loud, listen to each other's stories. When writers visited us they'd read some of their one of the books they had written with the kids. We'd read it together and talk about it. And so that conversation, again, is modelled on that ongoing correspondence i used to do with the kids at the high school. Neither of us is inherently superior.
